The IHF started a two-day preparation course lead by Manfred Prause (PRC) and Dietrich Späte (CCM) with the referees participating in the 1st Youth World Championship in Qatar (3 –11 August 2005).

Most of the six couples coming from BIH, BLR, BRA, NGR, QAT, SVK are under 30 years old. The youngest couple comes from BLR aged 26!
The IHF hopes some of these referees may be tomorrow's top referees.

Modern exercise methods in the referee course:

As the course opening a rule test regarding the new rules was carried out, the result revealing that all the referees are well preparded for the new rules, which have been effective since 1 August 2005.

On the first day, the IHF focused on new techniques in terms of the goal and field referees' movements. The guidelines for these new paths:

- run forward and observe the match
- never turn away from the match
- run along the side line – sometimes if it is possible outside the field
- if not necessary do not move but just observe

Exercise training session – signal for all referees for the future

In the practical training session, the IHF introduced a new rule interpretation for offensive blocks: criteria for a correct block, mistakes from the defender and attacker, typical tactical situations.
In the second part, the referees worked in the hall like the teams:

- exercices for general movements so-called running ABC
- exercices to shape up physical mobility and strength of body
- co-ordination training
- sprinting competitions

The intention of this new methods in referee training is being more related to practice: consequent fast-paced play in international handball means

- higher physical pressure on the referees and this requires a more intensive referee training
